Maple Grove police are asking for the public’s help to identify a man who randomly attacked a women near Mud Lake on Sunday around 8:30 a.m.
According to police a heavyset man in his 30s allegedly forced the woman to the ground and put a shirt over her mouth before running away. On Wednesday police confirmed that the suspect is a light-skinned Hispanic man in his early to mid-30s, about 5-foot-9 with short curly dark hair.
At the time of the attack on a paved trail in Elm Creek Park Reserve, the suspect was wearing bright blue shorts and no shirt. He may have been carrying a gray shirt with him, police said.
Residents and businesses in Champlin and Dayton are being to check surveillance cameras for any suspicious activity.
Maple Grove police say they are stepping up patrols to monitor the area.
