A man is facing decades in prison for his role in a fatal shooting that killed one and injured multiple others at Boom Island Park last summer.
Marquez Demar Hill-Turnipseed, 24, was sentenced to 40 years (480 months) in prison after pleading guilty to one count of second-degree murder – drive-by shooting. He has credit for 414 days already served.
As previously reported, a criminal complaint alleges that on June 1, 2025, Hill-Turnipseed arrived at Boom Island Park with Zyere Jakay Porter and another man in a Dodge Challenger to attack a gang rival. Their associate got out of the Challenger and was chased and shot before being taken to the hospital in another car.
