Appleton ICE detention center operator may help cover cost of city’s public services

City of Appleton leaders are weighing a proposed deal in which the operator of the new immigrant detention center at the city’s old prison would help pay for city services.

According to a draft memorandum of understanding sent to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS, CoreCivic would make a one-time $1.5 million payment to Appleton in 2026, followed by annual payments of $1.26 million beginning in 2027, paid in monthly installments of $105,000.
