LOS ANGELES — When Tori Penso blows her whistle at the start of her first assignment in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, she will have made history.
Penso will become the first American woman to ever referee a men's World Cup match. She'll join a short list of trailblazing women who did so for the first time in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Stéphanie Frappart of France was the first, followed later by Yoshimi Yamashita of Japan and Salima Mukansanga of Rwanda.
