Scattered rain will move through the region Sunday afternoon with heavy downpours possible, but minimal risk of severe weather.
MINNESOTA, USA — There is one drawback to the summer sunshine and temperatures this weekend; we are seeing high levels of ground-ozone pollution which is unhealthy for those with health issues such as lung or heart disease. The levels will drop off after sunset and remain low Sunday morning before increasing for the afternoon. Those with health concerns may want to limit their time outdoors during the afternoon hours.
We do have a chance of more rain and storms making their way from southern Minnesota into the metro area Sunday afternoon into the evening.
Low pressure moving in from the south will bring more rain and downpours to the region; however, the risk of severe weather will remain quite low. These storms will produce heavy, isolated rainfall, but unfortunately they won't provide widespread beneficial rainfall totals. Much of the rain will be found over eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
The Weather Prediction Center has highlighted nearly all of Minnesota and all of Wisconsin under a marginal (level 1 out of 4) threat for excessive rainfall on Monday resulting from those heavy downpours.
Following an effective rain-maker on Monday, our humidity will climb even higher with dew points expected to hover near 70 degrees. This will prime our atmosphere for big rain and potential thunderstorm activity; we will be watching for any forcing that could produce an active weather days. More good news, dew points are expected to take a tumble late next week bringing more comfortable weather back to the region.
At this point, it looks like the weather will be hot, humid and quiet for Tuesday, but a cold front sweeping across the region on Wednesday have a good chance of bringing scattered storms to the area followed by a steady drop in temperatures and humidity. Stay tuned to the forecast for changes.
