Walz appoints Department of Labor commissioner to serve as a Hennepin County judge

Several Minnesota agencies may soon get new leadership after the end of Gov. Tim Walz’s term early next year. However, at least one of those agency leaders will still have a prominent role in Hennepin County.

On Friday, Walz appointed the commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) as a Fourth District judge. She’ll replace Judge Bev Benson, who is retiring.

Blissenbach has led DLI, the cabinet-level agency in charge of work environments and regulations, since taking over in a temporary capacity in August 2022. She got the permanent job in January 2023.
