Multiple sources confirm to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that plea deal negotiations are underway between federal prosecutors and attorneys for Vance Boelter, the suspect charged in the murder of former Minnesota Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark.

Sources say if Boelter agrees to plead guilty to all state and federal charges and serve a life sentence, then the death penalty will be taken off the table. If Boelter rejects the plea deal, then the death penalty would still be considered in the federal case.
