The twins were a part of the university's first cohort of nursing students to graduate with a bachelor's degree.

SAINT PAUL, Minn. — The University of St. Thomas graduated its first cohort of 50 students with a bachelor’s degree in nursing, and two of them are heading to Rochester to work at the Mayo Clinic.

“It’s honestly been such a blessing to be a part of this cohort,” said Kaija Vijums.

“I feel like we’ve set a good ground and foundation for those, so I’m excited for the classes ahead,” said Melija Vijums.

Kaija and Melija are twin sisters. They knew in high school they wanted to go into the medical field because without health care professionals, Kaija might not be here.
