MONETA, Virginia — A fast-moving, powerful weather cell that moved through western Virginia on Friday night caused a large tent to collapse, killing one person and injuring more than 20 others who were attending an outdoor church event.

The collapse occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Eastern in Moneta, while EastLake Community Church was holding its service, authorities in Bedford County said in a news release.
