Texas track meet stabbing trial: Jury reaches verdict in Karmelo Anthony case

Karmelo Anthony was charged with murder in Austin Metcalf's stabbing death during a Texas track meet. The defense claimed self-defense.

The jury found Anthony guilty of murder after around two hours of deliberations.  

The judge allowed jurors to consider both murder and manslaughter, which would have carried a lesser penalty. Anthony said it was self defense.

The punishment phase of the trial is now starting. The murder conviction carries a sentence range of five to 99 years, or life in prison.

The timeline of the case begins April 2, 2025. 

Anthony, a former student at Frisco Centennial High School, was charged with murder in the April 2, 2025, killing of Metcalf, a student-athlete at Frisco Memorial High School.
