One historic Minneapolis building has a connection to baseball’s past.

Butler Square in downtown Minneapolis near Target Field sits on land of the former Athletic Park baseball stadium. The stadium was home to the Minneapolis Millers.

“It was known as the baseball block,” Butler Square senior property manager Angela Samargia said.  

When the baseball block was sold in 1901, businessman T.B. Walker stepped up to the plate for a new development. Walker, one of the wealthiest men in the world, built a warehouse for the Butler Brothers company, a mail-order retail firm.

“The building is a monster in itself,” Samargia said. “A whole city block long, a half city block wide.”
