Second person connected to Boom Island Park mass shooting last June enters guilty plea

Zyere Porter will be sentenced to 30 years in prison, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.

MINNEAPOLIS — A second person connected to the deadly mass shooting at Boom Island Park in June of 2025 has entered a guilty plea. Zyere Jakay Porter, 24, pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of aiding/abetting second-degree intentional murder and two counts of aiding/abetting a drive-by shooting.

That comes a month after another person, Marquez Demar Hill-Turnipseed, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder charges stemming from a drive-by shooting.

Several people were hurt, and one person, identified as Stageina Whiting, was killed.
