Ramsey County significantly reduces MnCHOICES assessment backlog

A big investment in Ramsey County is paying off to reduce delays in MnCHOICES initial assessments, which reached 11 to 12 months at its peak last year, according to the county.

“The last year plus has been very intense,” said Katy Molinare, social services deputy director for Ramsey County. “Everyone across the division has worked very hard.”

Molinare updated the County Commission on the progress of hiring 80 employees to help address the backlog on Tuesday. The commission approved the hiring last March.

At the highest point, Molinare said about 2,500 residents were affected by assessment delays. It’s since been reduced by about 1,800 residents so far and is expected to be ended by the end of the year.

“I’m getting less calls and complaints about residents waiting,” said Commissioner Mai Chong Xiong. “I think they did a tremendous job executing this.”
