A proven program aimed at filling Minnesota’s depleted police force has been paused after failing to secure additional funding this legislative session.
Since 2024, known as ICPOET, the Intensive Comprehensive Police Officer Education and Training program has supported more than 50 law enforcement agencies in helping more than 100 people seeking a new career in law enforcement join their forces.
The program was launched for local agencies when the state had a massive surplus, but with budgets much tighter last session, lawmakers who support it say there just wasn’t enough to go around.
