The initiative comes as Minneapolis prepares for several major events over the season, including Pride, Taste of Minnesota, the Aquatennial and others.
MINNEAPOLIS — City and law enforcement leaders met in Minneapolis Wednesday morning to discuss their plans for the fifth year of their season-long initiative, Operation Safe Summer.
The program, led by the Minneapolis Police Department in partnership with other agencies, focuses on getting individuals accused of committing violent crimes off the street. Mayor Jacob Frey told reporters Wednesday morning that data shows the operation has helped curb crime across the city.
"What we found over the last several years is that when we have these targeted enforcement details, we are better able to keep people safe," Frey said.
