CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A teen who contracted a severe illness caused by Naegleria fowleri, a rare flesh-eating amoeba, has died, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS).
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services confirmed the death occurred Monday, Aug. 31 and extended its condolences to the family, friends and community affected by the loss. The department hasn't released any further details to protect the family's privacy at this time.
