EDEN, N.C. — A North Carolina court has dismissed a two-decade-old DWI charge brought against Michele Hundley Smith, the woman who vanished in 2001 and was found alive in February 2026.
Smith was reported missing Dec. 31, 2001, after leaving her home to go Christmas shopping at a K-Mart in Martinsville, Virginia. She never returned, leaving behind a husband and three children. Multiple agencies spent more than two decades searching for her.
