Minneapolis street renamed in honor of Officer Jamal Mitchell on second anniversary of his death

Minneapolis honors fallen Officer Jamal Mitchell by renaming a street section for him, marking two years since his death.

MINNEAPOLIS — A stretch of Blaisdell Avenue in Minneapolis has been renamed "Officer Jamal Mitchell Way" in honor of the Minneapolis police officer killed in the line of duty two years ago.

City leaders, Minneapolis Police Department officials, and Mitchell's family and friends gathered Saturday morning at the intersection of West 22nd Street and Blaisdell Avenue, near where Mitchell was fatally shot, to unveil the new street sign. The section of Blaisdell Ave. between Franklin Ave. and West 22nd St. now bears his name.

Mitchell's life partner, Tori Myslajek, his children and other family members were present for the unveiling on the second anniversary of his death. They pulled the string to reveal the sign.
