School districts across Minnesota are running out of time to finalize next year’s budget. They have to wrap up the budgeting process by June 15, and many are still trying to figure out where to make cuts as they face deficits.
The Minneapolis Public Schools Board of Education is taking a last look Tuesday evening at what it will spend on your child’s school next year.
“Initially, the proposed budget from the district had a lot of cuts to school sites and to people who work closest to students,” said Natasha Dockter, vice president of teachers with the Minneapolis Federation of Educators, Local 59.
She was talking about the budget the district originally proposed for fiscal year 2027, which begins in July. But the final version the board is about to vote on brings back about 100 of those people.
