According to the U.S. Forest Service, investigators found that the Birch Bay fire may have been caused by chainsaw work done by U.S. Forest Service personnel, KSTP’s sister station WDIO reports.

Personnel were working to prepare the Geraldine Prescribed Fire project area for an upcoming prescribed burn. Crews were using chainsaws to maintain control lines for firefighters to access the fire area and reduce the amount of fuel available to the fire.
