George Floyd Square was a busy place Monday — the first day of a $15 million reconstruction effort.
The project is designed to reopen streets while keeping the memorial area closed to traffic.
But some are worried about the cost passed on to the community.
“I think the community feels like, and so do I, that it’s unfair,” declares Pastor Curtis Farrar, with the Worldwide Outreach for Christ Church. “We didn’t start the problem; we didn’t create the problem.”
He says the church, which has been at 38th and Chicago for 47 years, received a $35,000 special assessment notice.
