Gov. Walz appoints Chauvin trial judge to lead Minnesota’s immigration council

Governor Tim Walz has appointed Judge Peter Cahill, who oversaw the Derek Chauvin trial, to lead a new state council reviewing how recent federal immigration operations affected Minnesotans.

They will be tasked with documenting how Operation Metro Surge and Operation Parris affected Minnesotans.

The new council includes community leaders and legal experts from across the state.

Its job is to gather testimony, preserve people’s experiences and make recommendations.
