With whispers of interest from the University of Kentucky, the Gophers signed athletics director Mark Coyle to a contract extension. The agreement keeps Coyle under contract through June 2032.
In Coyle’s 10-years as boss, he’s hired and fired many coaches, with football’s P.J. Fleck being his signature move. Since 2019, the Gophers have a 54-31 record in football and their .635 winning percentage ranks fifth among teams who competed in the Big Ten during that time.
Fleck and Coyle form the longest-tenured athletics director/head coach partnership in the Big Ten.
Coyle will be compensated $2.5 million in the last year of the deal.
He manages an athletics department that has 22 varsity sports with 600 student-athletes.
