The "Today" journalist turned 100 in March.
WASHINGTON — Gene Shalit, an American journalist known for his film reviews on the "Today" show, has died. He was 100.
NBC Nightly News first reported the news of his death. His family confirmed the news with NBC News on Friday, saying the journalist “passed away peacefully today after 100 years of an amazing life."
Shalit was an on-air critic for "Today" for more than 40 years.
In March, Al Roker had shared an update on the iconic journalist as he turned 100. Roker, who himself has become a staple of the "Today" show, said Shalit "looked fantastic" and shared a photo of the film critic.
