Family rescued after being stranded more than 120 feet in air on malfunctioning Six Flags ride

Emergency crews used a crane and safety harnesses to bring two adults and two children to the ground after a 2½-hour ordeal.

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. — Four people were rescued Thursday after becoming stranded more than 120 feet in the air when a swing ride malfunctioned at a Six Flags amusement park, officials said.

The riders — two adults and two children — were on the Sky Screamer attraction when it stopped operating shortly before 5:30 p.m., leaving them suspended high above the ground.

Park officials initially attempted to manually lower the ride, but when those efforts were unsuccessful, emergency crews were called in to assist.

First responders used a crane to reach the riders, who remained calm while waiting for help, according to park officials.
