County leaders argue that immediately shutting down HERC without alternatives in place would simply send more waste to landfills.
MINNEAPOLIS — More than a year after local leaders approved a path toward shutting down the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC), an environmental coalition says Hennepin County is dragging its feet — and now the group is preparing to sue.
“It poses a huge threat to our natural resources.”
That's the message from Leslie Mynt and the Zero Burn Coalition, which is raising concerns about the waste-to-energy facility in north Minneapolis and the ash produced by its operations.
“It was a letter notifying Hennepin County that they have been negligent in addressing the toxic ash that results from HERC’s operations,” Mynt said.
