Elite Abilities Spotlight, June 9: Brandon Gangl

37-year-old Apple Valley resident Brandon Gangl has been a Special Olympian for more than two decades, building relationships and lifting spirits along the way.

What does Brandon enjoy most?

“Being with people,” he told KSTP’s Darren Wolfson.

Those around him say that attitude defines who he is.

“He’s always trying to make somebody else’s day better just by being around them and smiling and having that positive outlook,” his father, Paul, said. “That’s what Brandon is known for.”

Gangl is also known for his skill on the bocce court, where teammates believe he has what it takes to contend for a medal.

Brandon was born with Dandy-Walker syndrome, a condition that affects the cerebellum and can impact coordination and speech.

Coaches and teammates say Gangl brings energy and joy to every practice and competition.
