Heads up, east metro drivers. Some weekend road work may detour your plans.
Weekend road work in the east part of the Twin Cities metro will close parts of Interstate 694 and Snelling Avenue, adding traffic to nearby detours.
The eastbound lanes of I-694 from 35E to Highway 61 will be closed from Friday at 10 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m. due to bridge painting work. Northbound 35E, eastbound 694, and southbound 694 are your ways around it.
A separate closure on the southbound side of Snelling Avenue, between 694 and Highway 36, begins Friday at 8 p.m. and also runs until Monday morning at 5 a.m. for resurfacing. The detour for that area is 694 and 35W.
Both closures are expected to cause increased traffic delays on detour routes, compounded by the fact that Highway 280 is already closed throughout the summer and would have otherwise served as a detour for both projects.
