The Lift Garage in Minneapolis feeling the strain of inflation, yet busier than ever as low-income Minnesotans seek help with rising repair costs.
MINNEAPOLIS — The team of staff who operate The Lift Garage in Minneapolis know that tough times are often the busiest times.
"Our phone system gets overrun and shuts down sometimes, just because people really, really want appointments here," said service manager Atom Robinson.
The unique nonprofit, which raises money in order to provide free inspections and deeply discounted car service, has long been a critical resource for low-income Minnesotans. But the last three months have been particularly challenging.
"Demand is off the charts," Robinson said. "We open up about 100 appointments every month and they usually fill within minutes."
