Dakota County Drug Task Force warns residents after an increase of drug overdoses

The Dakota County Drug Task Force is putting out an alarm after it says there has been a recent spike in overdoses in the county.

According to the task force, an increase in fatal and nonfatal overdoses has been seen this past week, with a recent spike in the past 24 hours. The task force has attributed this issue to a possible increase in fentanyl in the drug supply.

Because of this, the task force is asking residents to be aware of what an opioid overdose looks like and how they can assist if one occurs.

Signs of an opioid overdose include:

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Unresponsive to someone’s touch
  • Fingernails and lips that have turned blue or purplish-black
  • A slow, erratic or absent pulse
  • Slow, shallow, erratic or no breathing
  • People with a lighter skin tone may turn bluish-purple, and for darker-skinned people, they may appear to look gray or ashen.
