A man accused of brutally murdering a Minneapolis shopkeeper has been returned to competency and will now face trial two and a half years after the offense.
Taylor Justin Schulz, 47, was charged with first-degree murder and second-degree murder after he allegedly beat and impaled Oak Grove Grocery employee Robert Skafte with a golf club on Dec. 8, 2023.
Schulz has pleaded not guilty to the charges, claiming mental illness as a defense. At three points over the past few years, the court has found him incompetent to stand trial.
