Hennepin County's Lyndale Avenue redesign sparked a heated discussion between business owners and cycling activists on Monday night during a community meeting.

MINNEAPOLIS — A proposed redesign of Lyndale Avenue is creating new uncertainty for some businesses along the corridor in Uptown.

Hennepin County plans to reconstruct Lyndale Avenue and replace aging utilities beneath the street while making safety improvements. The latest design proposal includes a two-way bikeway, expanded green space, improved lighting and concrete medians in some areas.

The project would remove dozens of trees and eliminate dozens of on-street parking spaces, concerns that have drawn opposition from several business owners questioning where their customers will park.
