A year after the tragic shooting of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, their Brooklyn Park community honors their memory.
BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — A year after the shooting deaths of Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, the neighborhood where they lived is showing its grief and its gratitude.
On June 14, 2025, Mark and Melissa Hortman were shot and killed in their home, after police say Vance Boelter attempted to kill State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette.
Now, yard signs and posters bearing Melissa's image have spread across the streets of Brooklyn Park, driven by neighbors who say they are not ready to let her memory fade.
