Vance Boelter is expected to appear in federal court on Thursday morning and could accept a plea deal.

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS reported last weekend that plea negotiations were underway on a deal that would allow Boelter — the man charged with killing Minnesota Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and attacking Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette — to avoid the death penalty.

On Wednesday, the Department of Justice requested a change of plea hearing, and a judge put it on the schedule for 10 a.m. Thursday.
