Chances are, your kid is probably using a tablet or other device in school.

Just ask Amber Frigaard, who has a daughter in kindergarten at Minneapolis Public Schools.

“I think they’re important,” she says. “I think it’s a tool that is something they will need to use as they proceed into the world.”

This year, Minnesota schools and public libraries are to receive nearly $29 million in federal money under what’s called the ‘E-Rate’ program.

Those dollars don’t pay for the devices themselves, but the infrastructure that supports them — internet access, cell service, Wi-Fi routers and more.

St. Cloud Area Schools received about $118,000 this past year.
