An air quality alert has been issued due to ozone for a large chunk of Minnesota through the weekend.
The alert took effect at noon on Saturday and will run until 11 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA).
The areas affected include the Twin Cities metro area, Brainerd, Alexandria, Albert Lea, Marshall, Worthington, Rochester, Hinckley, St. Cloud, Winona, Ortonville, Mankato, East Grand Forks, Moorhead, and the Tribal Nations of Upper Sioux, Mille Lacs, Prairie Island, Leech Lake and White Earth.
Warm temperatures and sunny skies provide a favorable environment for ground-level ozone to be produced, the MPCA adds.
The agency says that people with asthma or other breathing conditions, children and people doing extended physical activity will be most impacted by the air quality.
