Steamboat Lake water rescue says three people were pulled from the water Thursday after they left their ship to swim and the boat drifted out of reach.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said the water rescue began at 12:47 p.m. after a 911 call was placed from Steamboat Lake reporting that multiple people had entered the water and were not seen.
When deputies arrived, they spoke with a woman who had swum to shore, stating that she and two other women had been in a boat and had left the vessel to swim. The wind, reported at 25-30 mph, blew the boat away from them, leaving them stranded in the water.
It was later determined that the boat had not been anchored, causing it to drift away.
The woman was placed onto another boat and taken out to the lake to help search for the other two women.
